UNITED KINGDOM IETA CONFERENCE

The 2nd annual IETA Conference on the 16th and 17th of June held at the British Racing School at Newmarket was an outstanding success.  Ivana and Jock flew in direct from Texas  and were both extremely proud of the turnout and the way that Adele, Lara and the IETA team put the conference together.  Some absolutely excellent presenters gave insights into their modalities which ranged from ‘What is a Horse’ to Computerized Gait Analysis.

Ivana as usual gave a flawless lecture on Fascia, and her enthusiasm for the subject and her detailed delivery once again showed her consummate researcher’s gift for leaving no detail uncovered. She even managed to make looking at a pork chop designed for Jock's dinner look interesting. The new software, shirts, kool packs, key rings, and jewelry went down well with everyone.

The conference was attended by Instructors and students from all over.  New Instructor,  Eva Longborn Madsen (pictured) flew over from Denmark to Join up with Chris Wyllie, Heather McReynolds and Lara Neighbour to lend their support in making this a weekend to be proud of.

P.S. From Jock. " When one starts anything new due to growth and success there is always an element of fear, especially for Ivana and I as delegation is new to us and it seems a bit like the tail wagging the dog. But both of us are extremely proud of the way IETA and the Adele and the NCC in the UK hosted and presented this amazing conference. All we can say is we are looking forward to the next one and hoping to help make it the conference that everyone from all over Europe will want to attend."

THE HORSE LISTENERS MEET THE OTHER HORSE LISTENERS AT LONG LAST

At last, the ones who started it all meet up and make a great connection. It has been eleven years since Jock 'accidentally' discovered the gift of Equine Touch and although over the years he has worked with some of the best known horsemen in the world his personal wish has always been to meet the man who he considers changed the way the world, looked at horses. 'I remember' said Jock ' that when people started to ask me to work on horses, I was terrified I knew nothing. I went to the local library, took out Monty's book and video, and watched them every day for a week. Without Monty there would never have been an Equine Touch, and that's a fact.'

At the Intelligent Horsemanship headquarters at Hartsop Farm in Oxfordshire, Monty, Jock, Ivana and top UK trainer Kelly Marks exchanged stories and ideas with Kelly's students who then sat back and watched Monty and Jock work on 'Pumpkin' a horse with some major behavior and physical problems. The end result: a completely changed 'for the better' horse. Pumpkin became trusting, peaceful and calm, her whole body softened and she started doing whatever was requested, proving that once again Equine Touch complements, supports and works in harmony with considerate intelligent horsemanship, a feeling echoed by Monty himself upon seeing the end result.

For Jock and Ivana, apart from the thrill of meeting Monty, it was also great to watch him work first hand and see the respect with which he treated the horse as well as the amazing skills he possesses as he brought a 'bundle of dynamite' who could have injured someone into a harmonious partnership with humans within 30 minutes. An amazing horseman and a gracious eloquent man who really cares about the horse.

As Jock said, " When I think of all the so called famous 'natural' horse trainers I have worked with over the years, Monty is the only one who actually took time out, sat down with his students and watched an ET session from start to finish, and at the end vocally complemented it and commented on how well it dovetailed in with his work on problem horses."

ANATOMY DISSECTION CLINICS WITH IVANA PLANNED FOR NEXT YEAR

Equine Touch is not standing still!  Equine Touch practitioners and students are the leaders in the field of gentle, non invasive, non diagnostic ‘hands on’ horse care.  After long consideration and many requests Ivana has agreed to hold a series of 'Equine Dissection Clinics for Equine Body Workers’. Earlier this year after attending a dissection clinic and being extremely disappointed at the lack of knowledge and dissection skills presented by the instructor, several of her co-students - on seeing Ivana’s expertise in anatomy and surgical skills - asked her to consider holding her own classes for bodyworkers.  For you who do not know Ivana’s history, she was a practical lecturer in anatomy focusing on dissection at the Czech Vet University.

As many of you are already aware anatomy is Ivana’s passion and as she is currently writing an Equine Anatomy book which she hopes to complete during our summer hiatus in Czech. The inclusion of the dissection class along with the continual development of ET and Beyond will continue the journey of ET taking it to a new level of credibility in the international equine world.

If you are interested in attending the Dissection Clinics when they become available in 2009 please let us know.  We are intending to hold them in Australia, USA, UK  and New Zealand.  Your feedback on this would be most welcome.

AUSTRALIAN TID BIT FROM TRISH BUCHAN

'I am astounded by what new people are saying when they bring the horse back for the second session.  I am almost embarrassed by the raving regarding changes and improvements in temperament and movement. It makes my heart swell with emotion that the horse has been able to make so many changes.'

EXCELLENT EQUINE TOUCH SYMPOSIUM HELD AT HARTSOP FARM

Hartsop Farm, the headquarters of Intelligent Horsemanship, was the new venue for the June Jock and Ivana symposium in the UK. Level 3 UK students were joined by Orianne from France for Ivana's Level 3 while Jock took a class of Practitioners in ET and Beyond, as well as putting them endlessly & relentlessly through the Branding, showing them how dedication to performing this introductory procedure is so important, not only for the horse but for the practitioner.

Hartsop Farm is an excellent venue to teach at; covered arenas with round pens enabled the two classes to be taught in synergy without intruding on the other. Organized by Adele at the NCC, the format of the clinics and the organization was excellent, extremely professional setting a blueprint for ET symposiums for the future. ____________________________________________________________________________________________

VHT and CANINE TOUCH CLINIC AT LYN'S IN GLASTONBURY

Jock and Ivana started off their European season with a VHT and Canine Touch symposium at Lyn Palmer's near Glastonbury. Once again 'Mummy' Lyn as we all call her was the caring host and everyone had a wonderful time, especially Bernard, who found himself being the only male (other than Jock) working with a team of lovelies from all over UK and France. Ivana meanwhile launched her new Module 1 for the Canine Touch which was very well received. The awareness of Canine Touch is growing and so it is necessary that with animal modalities starting to be considered for self regulation that a regulated protocol for teaching the doggy discipline be locked in sooner rather than later. The new format appears to be acceptable to all who have experienced it and ETF will look forward to establishing this criteria everywhere. Lyn is now a qualified VHT and Canine Touch Instructor and as always provided both the founders and the students with excellent and memorable classes.

MESSAGE FROM JOCK AND IVANA - GOOD NEWS, SAD NEWS

We are home in the Czech Republic. Travel as always is taking up so much of our time and energy; each year we promise ourselves we are going to slow down, but it just seems to get more and more hectic.

Our Equine Touch year starts on the 1st of June, through to the 31st of May. In the last year 180 clinics were taught worldwide. That is fantastic, made even more fantastic by the fact that we have been working with many of the students at Level 3 who have been taught by the new Instructors who were only appointed12 months ago. These students were fantastic and so easy to take to that next level, it made us really proud to know that the instruction of ET is currently in good hands. Unfortunately some of the new instructors fell by the wayside, some of them realizing that instructing ET is not an easy task. The ones who have succeeded and had their licenses renewed all admit that it requires a lot of hard work and dedication to make the grade and achieve the levels that we at ETF and the instructors themselves agreed to. This is necessary in order to insure that the new students get the highest quality of teaching possible and that the integrity, standard and purity of ET is upheld worldwide. In the past 12 months we have opened ET clinics in Canada, France, Denmark with Dubai and Italy coming on line shortly, so we cannot and will not allow the quality of excellence that we demand from our instructors to be compromised.

With success always comes the downside and that is a sad fact of life. While we at ETF and IETA do our very best to maintain a Code of Ethics we have recently had a couple of complaints about a certain practitioner and student who were not behaving within that Code. Their behavior which has involved invasive techniques other than ET, making diagnosis, giving advice in areas where they are not qualified to do so, disciplining horses and upsetting clients is not acceptable.

Johnny Cash has a song 'Bad News Travels like Wildfire' (good news travels slow), this may be OK in a song but it is not acceptable in Equine Touch. Some may think we are are ruthless in our attitude to these transgressors, but we have shared the gift of ET to enhance the quality of life of the horse, not the ego of the human. We will not allow the stupidity and ego of one or two to hurt the positive impact that all the rest of you are making on the horse world. Even simply 2 out of thousands of students are 2 too many.

We always hate to repeat ourselves but please support IETA - they are the first line of protection for all of you, so 'join up' now, we have chapters up and running in UK, USA and Canada, Scandinavia, New Zealand and one under construction in Australia. If you are not already a member then contact your local instructor, NCC, or IETA representative. Legislation is being contemplated world wide, and while it could take years for any of these slow acting government departments to get their act together, if and when they do, we have to be ready to be the first to knock on the door. The voice that will be heard and represent you will belong to IETA.

That's all for just now folks. Remember to keep these stories coming in. The Equine Touch is making a difference and your case studies and stories let the entire horse world know that there is more than simply saying 'I love my horse' try saying instead 'I care about my horse', and then go out and prove it, to the horse, to yourself and then to all of those horse people all around you.

Aloha Jock and Ivana
