March,still in New Zealand and it seems so long since I have put out a newsletter. Partly because of the massive changes that we have been working on and partly because of the fact that I have been trying to get my rather old head around the difference between MAC and PC and transferring or virtually redoing all the work again in this new format.
Ivana has been dedicating every moment producing an anatomy and physiology manual for our students and practitioners as well as working with a team of consultants and advisors on the all new format for the practitioners route which will be announced shortly and will be officially launched on the 1st of January worldwide.
Very shortly we will be hitting the road again, starting off in Australia with a visit to WA for a series of clinics then up to Queensland to open a new one there and then straight to California to hold a Level 1 and Level 4 at Monty Roberts’ Flag is Up farm at Solvang. Then its back to base in with Luann in San Marcos, Texas, with a Level 1 and 2 before moving on a little and catching up with Suz Kurten in Bertam Texas for a Level 1 and 2 at the Flying Horse Ranch there.
This will be followed with our first full scale ET Symposium in Canada near Toronto, where we will be joined by Raian kaiser and will be holding a Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 before skipping across the puddle to England to start the european leg of our tour.

After several years of hanging out in Texas we have decided to hit the road again and there is no better place to start off our 2009 tour across the USA than at Monty Roberts' Flag is Up farm in Solvang, in the Santa Barbara area. This will be a whole new experience for us as it is 3 years since we were last on the West Coast so we are looking forward to meeting a load of new friends and meeting up with old ones. For some time now our instructors in the UK have been working very closely with Intelligent Horsemanship, Kelly Marks and Monty, and all of us watching how well Equine Touch integrates with horsemanship at all levels, emotional, corrective, training and performance.
Time after time Equine Touch has proven that it does not take into account the type of training that is being used on a horse, it works at the horses own level, making it more supple, reducing stiffness and spasm, relaxing and removing emotional issues, and what is most important revealing by the touch whether or not the horse should even be trained. We will be holding a Level 1 and a level 4 at the same time. All bookings must be done through Raian at the NCC as 'Flag is Up' does not have that facility for outside students. Q: What is the difference between Bowen and the Equine Touch? A: This is a question which arises in classes time after time. It is usually instigated by Bowen people who have said it is the same, yet all Bowen people who come on the clinics are adamant it is not. The best way to describe the difference other than we are a continually evolving equine bodywork system, growing each year as we learn more, is the move and the intent and integrity behind it. The Bowen move, and there are a multitude of Bowen schools out there all teaching differently, base their work around their recognized 'Bowen' move which involves a gentle rolling motion over the muscle. The ET move involves challenging the muscle to distortion, moving through the muscle thereby causing a convulsion which in turn brings about a powerful recoil. This recoil causes vibration within the tissue, muscle and fascia. This is turn causes resonance at various frequencies throughout the soft tissue, both at the site as well as some distance away. ET is also the only Equine Bodywork which utilizes the recognized principles of horsemanship when applying a hands on address to the horses body. I am assured by the Bowen students who attend ET classes the others do not. I do not know how many set out procedures there are in Bowen Equine Schools but in ET we are well over 100 with ET and Beyond growing annually as the technique developed internally and integrates suitable non- invasive techniques from different but very compatible techniques such as Cranial and Osteopathy for example. *This is a new service we would like to offer to our readers, please send in your questions to Jock and Ivana and we will answer at least one each month. |

SOMETIMES THE TRUTH HURTS
Veronica Moore from the UK has now moved back to New Zealand and came along to help at the Tauranga Clinic. One morning she dragged me along to look at a horse which was perplexing her. A six year old thoroughbred mare. For those of you who know me well, you know I rely a lot on 'gut' instincts. I took one look at this horse and I was actually scared. It was not vicious, accepted me at the introduction, but when I started to 'brand' it I knew I had a nightmare under my hands. For the first time I knew what the the bomb squad felt like as I ran my hands across the body, this was a volcano waiting to erupt. The 'three lines test' on the neck revealed that the horse was an emotional nightmare, it had pain and was extremely nervous from the reaction on the top line from the atlas all the way down to the withers. Every move I did in the body balancing demanded my entire concentration and even when I had the horse in what appeared to be a somnambulistic state I was never sure what move would trigger an explosion.
The owner was a pretty young lass, of about 15 who wanted to event with her, and although she had had the horse for 4 months on trial she had not yet confirmed the purchase. When she asked me what I felt, it was not the easiest thing for me to say, but I told her not to buy the horse, it was in my opinion one of the most dangerous horses I had ever worked on. Not from being aggressive but, I felt it was emotionally unstable, it exhibited what could be observed as neurological problems, and the pain in its body appeared to change location each time Veronica visited it. It sort of reminded me of a human client I once had, emotional polarity accompanied by Fibromyalgia, one hell of an explosive combination, each problem feeding off and exploding the other, just as you think you have the answer in your hands it metamorphoses into something else. I could see the girl was upset but the element for potential extreme danger was there and in my gut there was a feeling that this was not a training, personality, or plain physical pain issue. Veronica agreed to talk to the girl's mother that evening.
The next morning the feedback from the mother was, 'well it has twice gone over backwards with my daughter on it, it has gone over backwards itself, and on one occasion when I was handling it, it knocked me over for no reason at all and started coming down trying to stomp me with its front feet, I have no idea what started that incident whatsoever.'
Hopefully the mother will take my advice and return the horse. Its better for her to break her daughter's heart for a couple of weeks than have the horse break her daughters back, the truth will hurt but not as much as that.
Gut instincts, that inner voice, listen to the words, understand them, its only a part of you telling another part what you really subconsciously know, the problem is you cant ask it a question as it never answers. _____________________________________________________________________________________________
